hem brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on
layer,-

P: So when Our commandment came to pass We overthrew (that township) and
rained upon it stones of clay, one after another,

S: So when Our decree came to pass, We turned them upside down and
rained down upon them stones, of what had been decreed, one after
another.

Y: Marked as from thy Lord: Nor are they ever far from those who do
wrong!

P: Marked with fire in the providence of thy Lord (for the destruction
of the wicked). And they are never far from the wrong-doers.

S: Marked (for punishment) with your Lord and it is not far off from the
unjust.

011.084
Y: To the Madyan People (We sent) Shu'aib, one of their own brethren: he
said: "O my people! worship Allah: Ye have no other god but Him. And
give not short measure or weight: I see you in prosperity, but I fear
for you the penalty of a day that will compass (you) all round."

P: And unto Midian (We sent) their brother Shu'eyb. He said: O my
people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him! And give not
short measure and short weight. Lo! I see you well-to-do, and lo! I
fear for you the doom of a besetting Day.

S: And to Madyan (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: O my people!
serve Allah, you have no god other than He, and do not give short
measure and weight: surely I see you in prosperity and surely I fear
for you the punishment of an all-encompassing day.

Y: "And O my people! give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the
people the things that are their due: commit not evil in the land with
intent to do mischief."

P: O my people! Give full measure and full weight in justice, and wrong
not people in respect of their goods. And do not evil in the earth,
causing corruption.

S: And, O my people! give full measure and weight fairly, and defraud
not men their things, and do not act corruptly in the land, making
mischief:

Y: "That which is left you by Allah is best for you, if ye (but)
believed! but I am not set over you to keep watch!"

P: That which Allah leaveth with you is better for you if ye are
believers; and I am not a keeper over you.

S: What remains with Allah is better for you if you are believers, and I
am not a keeper over you.

Y: They said: "O Shu'aib! Does thy (religion of) prayer command thee
that we leave off the worship which our fathers practised, or that we
leave off doing what we like with our property? truly,
