d, I have told you. [28:8]And
going out immediately from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran
to tell his disciples.
3 [28:9]And behold, Jesus also met them, saying, Hail! And they
approached him, and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him.
[28:10]Then Jesus said to them, Fear not; go and tell my brothers to go
to Galilee, and there they shall see me. [28:11]And as they went,
behold, some of the guard came into the city and told the chief priests
all the things which had happened. [28:12]And being assembled with the
elders, and taking counsel, they gave large sums of money to the
soldiers, [28:13]saying, Say that his disciples came by night and stole
him while we slept; [28:14]and if this is heard of by the procurator we
will satisfy him and secure you. [28:15]And they took the silver and
did as they were told; and this report is circulated among the Jews to
this day.
4 [28:16]And the eleven disciples went to Galilee on the mountain where
Jesus had appointed them; [28:17]and they saw and worshipped him; but
some doubted. [28:18]And Jesus coming near spoke to them, saying, All
power is given me in heaven and on the earth; [28:19]go and disciple
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit; [28:20]teaching them to keep all things which I
have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always till the
consummation of the world.
THE GOSPEL OF MARK.
CHAPTER I.
THE MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST, THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST, HIS
TEMPTATIONS, AND THE COMMENCEMENT OF HIS MINISTRY.
1 [1:1]THE beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
[1:2]as it is written in Isaiah the prophet; Behold, I send my
messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way. [1:3]A voice of
one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord! Make his
paths straight.
2 [1:4]John baptized in the wilderness, preaching the baptism of a
change of mind for the forgiveness of sins. [1:5]And all the country of
Judea and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him and were baptized
by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
3 [1:6]And John was clothed with camel's hairs and a leather girdle
about his loins, and he eat locusts and wild honey, [1:7]and preached,
saying, After me comes one mightier than I, the strings of whose shoes
I am not fit to stoop down and untie; [1:8]I have baptized you with
water, but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
