and
Double for all her sin.
Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of the Lord,
Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted,
And every mountain and hill shall be made low:
And the crooked shall be made straight,
And the rough places plain:
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
And all flesh shall see it together:
For the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
The voice of one saying, "Cry."
And one said, "What shall I cry?"
All flesh is grass,
And all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
The grass withereth,
The flower fadeth, {285}
Because the breath of the Lord bloweth upon it:
Surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth,
The flower fadeth:
But the word of our God shall stand forever.
O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion,
Get thee up into the high mountain;
O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem,
Lift up thy voice with strength;
Lift it up, be not afraid;
Say unto the cities of Judah, "Behold your God."
Behold, the Lord God will come as a mighty one,
And his arm shall rule for him:
Behold his reward is with him,
And his recompense before him.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd,
He shall gather the lambs in his arms,
And carry them in his bosom,
And shall gently lead those that give suck.
{286}
AWAKE, O ZION!
Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion;
Put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city;
For henceforth there shall no more come into thee
the uncircumcised and the unclean.
Shake thyself from the dust;
Arise, sit thee down, O Jerusalem:
Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him
That bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace,
That bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation;
That saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth.
The voice of the watchmen! they lift up the voice,
Together do they sing,
For they shall see, eye to eye,
When the Lord returneth to Zion.
Break forth into joy, sing together,
Ye waste places of Jerusalem:
For the Lord hath comforted his people,
He hath redeemed Jerusalem. {287}
The Lord hath made bare his holy arm
In the eyes of the nations;
And all the ends of the earth
Shall see the salvation of our God.
