Un bon jour il crut avoir trouve le joint et il resolut de mettre de
suite son projet a execution. La premiere fois qu'il rencontra son ami,
il l'arreta et lui dit ceci:

--Mon ami Pierre, tu voudras bien m'permettre une remarque que j'fais
sans mauvaise intention. C'n'est pas pour te blesser que j'vais t'dire
ca, mais y a longtemps qu'ca m'chicote, et j'voulais te l'dire plus
vite, mais ca m'coutait trop, de peur de t'faire d'la peine. Mais tu
sais, j'sus ben patient, et je n'voulais pas briser nos relations
amicales. Ton pain pese pas l'poids.

--Vrai? Ben, ca m'etonne pas, parc'que tu sais ben que j'ai pas de
balance.

--Comment fais tu ton compte pour pas t'tromper su' l'poids d'ta
marchandise?

--C'est ben simple. J'ai plante un piquet et j'ai mis une barre en
travers, comm'ca; j'ai pris ensuite des ficelles que j'ai attachees a
deux especes de soucoupes, comm'ca. Mon pain est suppose peser trois
livres, ton paquet d'beurre, aussi. Quand je r'cois ton beurre, je
l'mets dans une des soucoupes, et j'mets l'pain dans l'autre. Ca balance
