The best plan of working is to prepare a bath with 5 lb. of sulphate of zinc; in this the goods are worked at the boil for five minutes, then there is added the dyes previously dissolved in water, and the working continued for a quarter of an hour; there is then added 20 lb. Glauber's salt, and the working at the boil continued for one hour, at the end of which time the dye-bath will be fairly well exhausted of colour. The goods are now taken out and put into a fixing-bath of sumac or tannin, in which they are treated for fifteen minutes; to this same bath there is next added tartar emetic and 1 lb. sulphuric acid, and the working continued for a quarter of an hour, then the bath is heated to 160 deg. F., when the goods are lifted, rinsed and dried.
