nto them, "Extort no more than that which is appointed

And soldiers also asked him, saying, "And we, what must we do?"
And he said unto them, "Do violence to no man, neither take anything
wrongfully; and be content with your wages."
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized
by him. But John would have hindered him, saying, "I have need to be
baptized by thee, and comest thou to me?"
But Jesus answering said unto him, "Permit it now: for thus it

Then he permitted him. And Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of

THE TEMPTATION IN THE WILDERNESS.
_How the Lord Jesus Fought with a Great Foe_.
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was
led by the Spirit in the wilderness during forty days, being tempted
of the devil. And he ate nothing in those days: and when they were

it shall all be thine."
And Jesus answered and said unto him, "It is written, 'Thou shalt
worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.'"
